Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

Stephanie Alexander
Pleasurable food education is a fun, hands-on approach to teaching children and young people about fresh, seasonal, delicious food so they form positive food habits for life. Delivered through a kitchen garden program, pleasurable food education has an array of health, wellbeing, education and community benefits.
The Farmhouse has been delivering the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen-Garden Program for over ten years, with a commitment so strong that all of our rooms have access to their own kitchen.

Gardening
We have veggie and herb gardens across the whole centre, with our largest harvesting garden in the north-east yard. And thanks to our Kitchen-Garden Specialist and children’s passion for it, our produce thriving. We also have a greenhouse and orchard growing fruits.
Harvesting
Tell me and I forget
Teach me and I remember
Involve me and I learn
From season to season, children learn what grows and reaps the rewards of their efforts by harvesting fresh produce. And from here, they head to the kitchen…

Cooking
Children are directly involved in the cooking preparation and process in our dedicated Kitchen-Garden room that provides an interactive kitchen environment. This process of measuring and creating involves science, maths, fine motor skills and team work. And when we all sit down together to share the meal, there’s friendship and community.
