Health and Nutrition

Exercise

Central to our lives at The Farmhouse are health and nutrition. We therefore offer a fully integrated complementary indoor/outdoor program for children.

Children have plenty of time – and space – outdoors to run and jump, hop and skip, and enjoy the openness that only acres of freedom can provide – allowing children to flex their bodies enables them to stretch their minds.

Nutrition

Our onsite vegetable garden demonstrates a thorough appreciation for health and nutrition, quite literally, from the grass roots. As members of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program children learn to grow their own food, and then how to create tasty meals.

Our purpose-built kitchen provides nutritional meals, where possible utilizing fresh produce from our own garden and orchard. The meal plans are age-appropriate and designed by our dedicated chefs, – individual allergies catered for.

The nutritional aspect is particularly exciting as each room has it’s own mini-kitchen ! Here the children enjoy taking the fresh produce they’ve just harvested from the garden to their own kitchen, and then together create a meal to enjoy.

Are the meals included?

Yes ! Meals while you child/ren are there – breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late snack, all made by our chefs on-site from our commercial kitchen.

Our kitchen and chefs

The Farmhouse kitchen is an approved and registered commercial kitchen, specifically fitted-out to meet the needs of producing and delivering meals in a childcare environment.

Our kitchen team, Penny Neale and Sharon Mason, work especially well together to create the highest quality meals for the children.

The menus were initially designed by Theresa Pawson, who has many years of experience as a chef, as well as having worked in childcare, coupled with having both a Certificate in Infant and Preschool Nutrition and a Certificate in Childhood and Adolescent Nutrition. Theresa made sure the menus meet nutritional requirements while also being attractive to children (and just quietly….the staff enjoy the food too!)
